[A Selection of Early Published Works].

Various publishers, 1976-77. A group of six serials featuring some of the earliest appearances of writings, photographs, and visual art from David Wojnarowicz—then in his early twenties—alongside contributions from his close friends and associates. Namely: (01) The Coldspring Journal, No. 10 (1976), featuring "DENVER (after j.k., n.c & a.g.): FLASHES / CONVERSATIONS;" a first-person short story, set in a Denver bus station and diner; (02) Riverrun 76 (Brooklyn College, 1976), featuring Wojnarowicz's first published photographs—of a man drinking coffee in a diner (p. 50) and of a forest stream (p. 73)—and a short poem ("Dell's"); alongside contributions from Peter Cherches, Dennis DeForge, and John Ensslin; (03) Riverrun 77 (Brooklyn College, 1977), featuring Wojnarowicz's stream-of-consciousness poem "It is Night it is" (p. 58), as well as two black-and-white photographs from his mother, Dolores McGuinness; (04) Zone One (Brooklyn: Zonepress, Spring 1977), with three prose contributions from Wojnarowicz: "The Death of the Thin Man" (p. 86), "Interrogation" (pp. 89-90) and "Celebration" (p. 91), alongside three contributions by Brian Butterick, David's longtime friend and bandmate; (05) Zone Two (Brooklyn: Zonepress, Summer/Fall 1977), featuring a reproduction of a dark Wojnarowicz drawing (p. 19), facing a Charles Bernstein poem, as well as his short story "Cutting through the South" (pp. 74-77). Three photographs, including the cover image, are by longtime friend Dirk Rowntree, with another photograph from Wojnarowicz's mother; and (06) Local: An Anthology of The Subway Experience (Brooklyn: Zonepress, 1978), featuring a full-page illustration from Wojnarowicz (p. 54), who is described in the Contributors' Notes as an artist "who has a deep voice and is one of the great travelers as he doesn't eat much and complains less. He is hard at work avoiding the law and work." Copies mostly near fine, with minor shelf-wear to covers. More images available upon request.
