New York: Cafe au Go Go, 1965. Handbill (8.5 x 5.5 inches) for the Fluxus-inspired Monday night series at Greenwich Village's Cafe au Go Go. Known as Worldtheatre, the series featured experimental performances from the likes of Erik Anderson, Christo, Al Hansen, Dick Higgins, Charlotte Moorman, Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, Dieter Roth, Wolf Vostell, and Andy Warhol. Paik's performance on October 4th is often regarded as the origin of video art, as he exhibited video footage from his newly-acquired Sony Portapak, which he captured during his traffic jammed cab-ride downtown, occasioned by Pope Paul VI's visit to New York.
