Paris: Olympia Press, 1958. First Edition. Octavo. First issue, with original 1200 Francs to rear wrap, without over-stamped price. Rare in its first state, as this sexually explicit novel—pseudonymously written by Terry Southern and Mason Hoffenberg—was quickly condemned by French authorities. Publisher Maurice Girodias countered by designing new wrappers for unbound sheets, under the title Lollipop, and writing a new preliminary signature, to disguise the work from vice squad officers. Minor rubbing to green wrappers; near fine. A sharp copy housed in green cloth clamshell case with leather lettering piece to spine.
