New York: Library Fellows of the Whitney Museum of American Art, 1989. Limited Edition. Folio. One of 140 copies. Volume 7 in the Whitney Artist and Writers Series. SIGNED by the author and artist to colophon. Two volumes, illustrated by Robert Gober with lithographs on the endpapers. Bound in white leather with diary-style gilt clasps, and enclosed side by side in the publisher's lavender silk box. Gober's idea to place the two identical books side by side is a reference to the Oates text, a short story about identical twins. Gober has handwritten the story, which is printed on Saunders paper at the Allethaire Press in Massachusetts. Lithographs printed and proofed by Maurice Sánchez and James Miller at Derrière L’'Etoile Studios in New York. Hand-binding supervised by Craig Jensen at Book Lab in Austin, Texas. Edited by May Castleberry, and distributed exclusively to the artists and donors of the Whitney Library Fellows. Scarce and important artist book held in several institutional collections. Minor chipping to the gold clasps. Else fine in a fine silk box.
