New York: Top Stories, 1984. First Edition. Quarto. SIGNED and inscribed by Cookie Mueller with a lipstick kiss imprint: "To Barbara / I hope you laugh / at this- / Love- / Cookie Mueller," and dated in the year of publication (also signed by Sarah Jenkins at her Hujar portrait). The John Waters' film actress, advice columnist, and downtown icon's humorous stories of bad skin and an actual cure (vitamins and cleaning regimen) for acne. Mueller's text is accompanied by portraits of and by her friends David Armstrong, Nan Goldin, and Peter Hujar; each model twice, before (covered in spots) and after the pimple cure (clear skin). Published just before AIDS would decimate this circle, including Hujar and Mueller herself, the portraits with added spots a haunting and prescient foretelling of the Kaposi sarcoma that would afflict many of those that fell ill in short time. Strip of darkening at the top of the back panel and a trace of edge-wear, otherwise near fine in photo-illustrated wrappers.
