N.p.: n.p., c. 1949. Limited Edition. Number 3 of 6 numbered copies. Small spiral-bound quarto. Handmade book of original gelatin silver prints, 9 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches, documenting "old doors of the west" the author photographed on a trip down the "'49 Gold Route in the Motherlode country". Handwritten captions under the photographs, including the author's name on the front cover, which appears to read "Allen Chilole". 23 images counting the covers. At first blush, some photographs look like they were shot on movie sets, then the viewer realizes the authenticity of a rapidly modernizing California. A strange book of mostly excellent moody and evocative pictures. No copies in OCLC, and no information online. Some of the ink notations have smudges; a near fine copy in photo illustrated boards with the title printed to the photograph on the front cover.
