[Oslo: Dag Alveng, 1993]. Limited Edition. Oblong quarto. Number 5 of 20 numbered copies, SIGNED by Alveng and dated 1993. OCLC locates a single copy at The New York Public Library, with notes stating that fewer than six examples were actually produced. A fascinating artists' book consisting of 30 3 2/3 x 4 2/3 inch silver gelatin prints mounted to rectos only on heavy stock. The photographs are all double exposures of New York street scenes; many appear to be reflected in windows. Alveng called the series "This is Most Important" and continued it through 2003. A virtuoso performance by a photographer best-known for his book "Asylum" which documents inhabitants of a mental hospital in Alveng's native Oslo where he worked as a night watchman. Reminiscent of Lee Friedlander, Alveng's "New York", though little-known, belongs in the canon of great photobooks about the city. Boards a tad scuffed, photographs all in fine condition; overall a near fine copy in plain black cloth boards stamped in red.
