Tehran: Jahad Daneshgahi, c. 1980s. First Edition. Square quarto. Compelling wartime photobook with stark, journalistic black and white photographs of the Iran-Iraq War. The cover design, with an image of fleeing refugees montaged over a photograph of empty bullet casings and blood-red title text exemplifies the Iranian photobook style of unflinching realism tinged with propaganda colorings of sacrifice and martyrdom. Although documentation seems to be Aghaei's primary motivation, he several times returns to images of himself taken in distorted mirrors, half his face obscured by the camera. A dark and poetic book. Farsi text. Some light edge wear, overall close to near fine in photo-illustrated wrappers. Scarce, no copies located in OCLC.
