Boston: David Akiba, 1978. Oblong quarto. Cloth. SIGNED by Akiba and dated 1978. Unique book with eighteen silver gelatin prints and one page of printed text. Akiba studied with both Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind in the early 1970s (MFA, Rhode Island School of Design, 1973); he has taught and mentored photography students for the past forty years. His early work, represented here, is in a documentary style but also involves imagery manipulated by re-photographing his own photographs and using copy machines to create distortions that heighten the emotional content of the photograph. Printed with rich dark tones, the indoor shots share a narrative with his nighttime street scenes. Near fine in cloth boards.
