Santa Monica: Michael Intrator, 1961. Limited edition of 250 copies. Thin square octavo. Twelve pages, unbound, with linoleum block printed wrappers by artist Joe Zirker. Exhibition program for event on February 24th at Galerie Nico, the first Venice Beach gallery. Beat poet Lawrence Lipton had appeared a year earlier as "King of the Beatniks" in the cult b-film "Hypnotic Eye;" publisher Michael Intrator was an expelled former Communist Party member. The event program of poetry, jazz, dance, interspersed with references to Buddhist philosophy, encapsulates the growing California underground scene then on the verge of transforming into the Hippie counterculture. Near fine in block printed wrappers.
