New York: Issey Miyake, 1982. Folded invitation. Measures 13.2 by 14.4 inches, unfolded. Invite to Miyake’s landmark spring collection show, held on the deck of the decommissioned World War II-era aircraft carrier, The Intrepid. Miyake’s choice of venue for his first major New York show underlined his ambition to conquer the American marketplace with his new “Plantation” line of sportswear. One side of invitation contains a double portrait of Miyake by Tadanori Yokoo, other side has show information in black text on gold, laid out with Miyake’s usual concern for elegant and spare typography. A few very minor creases, else close to fine; folded as issued.
