New York: Macmillan, 1968. First Edition. Octavo. The scarce cloth issue of Danny Lyon's first book. One of the iconic American photobooks of the sixties. For this project, Lyon photographed and ultimately joined the Chicago Outlaws, a motorcycle racing club more interested in the emerging American biker culture than in winning on the track. Interestingly, some of the images in the book were originally shot in color, but financial limitations of the publisher necessitated publishing in black and white. (Parr / Badger, v1, 256; Roth 190-191; Open Book 236-237). Remainder dot to the top edge, else near fine in a vibrant, almost near fine jacket with short edge tears and moderate creasing at the head of the spine, small tear to the bottom front flap fold, thin vertical crease to the rear flap. Sharp copy, despite the minor defects.
