1936. Set of three portfolios of original black-and-white silver prints on Agfa paper by an unidentified photographer. (The photographer has signed his name on several prints but we are unable to decipher his handwriting.) Two of the portfolios are stamped "Mittlemeer-Reise [Mediterranean Travel] 1936 / I and II." The third portfolio is not stamped but is obviously from the same series. Includes over 200 stunning images of Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, presumably in 1936, with numerous picturesque shots of the regions' landscapes, sites, and citizens. The first portfolio contains 41 prints, with most measuring either 5 1/4 X 4 1/2 or 3 X 4 1/4 inches, mounted on 30 9 3/4 X 6 1/2 inch cards. The second album contains 130 prints, with most measuring 6 3/4 X 4 3/4 and 4 3/4 X 4 3/4 inches, mounted on 100 10 X 6 1/2 inch cards. The third album contains 41 prints, with most measuring 9 1/2 X 7 inches, matted and mounted on 33 13 X 9 3/4 inch cards. The majority of the images have been captioned by hand on their mounts with the location of the photograph. An incredible vernacular document, with numerous compelling images by a highly skilled, yet unidentified, photographer. A few photographs are toned, some have very light foxing, overall near fine condition housed in three portfolios in very good condition, with wear to the binding and spine.
