London: Lion and Unicorn Press, 1967. First Edition. Square folio. Errata slip laid in. A Rake's Progress reproduces a series of etchings made by Hockney between 1961 and 1963 (also published as prints in 1963 by Editions Alecto). The Royal College of Art, on seeing the first 8 etchings, proposed that Hockney enlarge the series (ultimately to 16) to be incorporated into a book printed by the College's Lion and Unicorn Press. To write a text to accompany the images, Hockney suggested the American poet David Posner. Light soiling to the bottom page edges, and a touch of wear to the covers, else near fine in clasp-bound printed black cloth boards. Early and uncommon Hockney book work.
