Someday Somewhere.

Tokyo: Geibi Shuppan, 1958. First Edition. Quarto. Publisher's ephemera laid in. The first truly modern Japanese photobook, showing the influence of Ishimoto's Chicago roots, and his tutelage under Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind at the Art Institute of Chicago. Despite the obvious overtones, this book remains a singularly original document. One of the indisputable highspots of postwar Japanese photographic literature; a true bridge book, blending cultures, design sensibilities, and tapped into the zeitgeist of the time. (Parr / Badger, v1, 272-273). Boards noticeably bowed, front corners gently bumped (bottom of the text block also lightly bumped); close to near fine in an almost near fine jacket with a few small edge tears and a minor archival repair to the top of the front panel. Uncommon in this condition despite the minor flaws; copies in decent dust jackets are rare.
