HASHIMOTO, Shoko. (Published by Kazuo Kitai)

Goze

Tokyo: Norasha, 1974. First Edition. Quarto. Published by Kazuo Kitai. Shot in the Provoke style, but with the rural and traditional subject matter championed by the book's publisher, Kazuo Kitai. Goze is a Japanese term referring to blind Japanese women usually working as itinerant musicians. The best example of the Goze genre, and a book that should be well-known, if not for its subject, then certainly for its technical innovation and its place both within and outside the Provoke style. Small vertical crease at the spine, else near fine in the near fine card slipcase, publisher's yellow obi (exceedingly scarce; Norasha books have been rumored to have obis, but even Kitai couldn't remember).
