Musashino Fubutsu - Shashinshu / Views of Musashino - a Book of Photographs

Osaka: Seibundo, 1943. First Edition. Quarto. Images of the landscape and religious iconography of the area of Musashino, edited by Shinzo Fukuhara and featuring several of his photographs. (The other photographers represented include Hachiemon Kawai, Shiro Sawabe and Minoru Minami, all members of Nihon Sahshin Kai.) Despite the seemingly static subject matter, the images in this volume have an ethereal modernist aesthetic; one simple picture of a plate of yakitori is particularly striking. Beautiful book. Very slightly shaken, else near fine in plain green boards and very good original fragile paper jacket (small chips and tears at the edges), housed in a very good example of the original publisher's slipcase (discolored on the spine). Only one copy in OCLC.
