KURATA, Seiji
Flash Up: Street PhotoRandom Tokyo 1975-1979
Tokyo: Byakuya Shobo, 1980. First Edition. Quarto. SIGNED by Kurata in Japanese with an autographed note, also in Japanese, laid in. We have not been able to pindown an exact translation, but the note was written at the time of publication and in it Kurata goes to great lengths to thank an unnamed recipient for his support and help. Gritty black and white images of the dark side of Tokyo life, the death shots reminiscent of a glossy Weegee, with the famous cover picture of a Yakuza, heavily tattooed and brandishing a samurai, on a Shinjuku rooftop. Kurata studied with Daido Moriyama. (Parr / Badger, v1, 305). Near fine in wrappers with bellyband, lightly rubbed, lacking the publisher's acetate jacket.Item #11332
