Genieve Figgis: Yes Captain

Genieve Figgis: Yes Captain

July 5 – August 6, 2014
Opening Reception: Saturday, July 5: 6–8pm

Harper's Books is proud to announce a highly anticipated exhibition of recent work by Irish painter Genieve Figgis. Painting at the intersection between abstraction and portraiture, Figgis unites an abiding interest in history with a penchant for the macabre. Laden with both humor and anxiety, her work is at once wrought with emotional intensity and haunted by psychological deviance, rooted in her ethereal caricatures of genteel society gone awry.

Most people come to the Hamptons to take advantage of our beautiful beaches and revel in the glorious summer light. Artists, writers, thinkers, financiers, and wine barons have long been drawn to this area for its fertile soil and creative spirit. In the past few years East Hampton has seen a cultural revival, with several new galleries and book stores springing up around town. We moved into our present location in October 2010, carrying on the literary and artistic traditions that have flourished at 87 Newtown Lane since 1992. Visitors are encouraged and cared for year round. An espresso or prosecco awaits, as does a gallery filled with cool books and art.
